Methodology & sources
Deadlines are derived from Regulation (EU) 2024/886 (the Instant Payments Regulation), which amends the SEPA Regulation. Payment service providers in euro-area member states must offer Verification of Payee from 9 October 2025; providers in member states whose currency is not the euro have until 9 July 2027.
Euro-area membership reflects the status as of 2026, including Bulgaria's adoption of the euro on 1 January 2026. Country classification follows the European Commission and European Central Bank.
This tracker covers the 27 EU member states. EEA states (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) implement equivalent rules on their own national timelines.

Payment service providers in euro-area countries must offer Verification of Payee from 9 October 2025, under the Instant Payments Regulation.
Member states whose currency is not the euro — such as Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania — have until 9 July 2027.
EEA countries (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) apply equivalent rules on national timelines. The UK runs a separate Confirmation of Payee scheme.
